Former Surrey mayor Linda Hepner is taking a run at provincial politics with the Conservative Party of BC.

She's nominated as candidate in the new Surrey-Serpentine River riding, and promises to take aim at Premier David Eby for treating Surrey "like a second-class city."

At age 75, Hepner said she thought she was retired from politics, "but I can’t stand by and do nothing while Eby ruins my city. Not happening," she's quoted in a news release sent Thursday, June 20.

Hepner was a single-term mayor of Surrey from 2014 to 2018, when she left civic politics.

She'll be among what the Conservatives promise to be "a full slate" of 93 candidates when B.C. votes go to the polls in October.

"John Rustad and his Conservative team have been relentless in their opposition to Eby's radical policies," Hepner declared.

"Conservatives are the opposition. The Conservatives have put together a strong team to defeat Eby's NDP, including business leaders, lawyers, addictions doctors and small business owners. I'm proud to be joining the only alternative to the NDP, to fight for Surrey."

Covering parts of Fleetwood and Cloverdale, the new Surrey-Serpentine River riding was created under the 2021 B.C. electoral redistribution. The riding stretches from 96 Avenue in the north, southward to 56 Avenue, from 142 Street east toward 176th. A map is shown on elections.bc.ca.
