The Museum of Surrey is set to host another Lunar New Year celebration.

The museum will celebrate the Year of the Dragon Feb. 24 with a short, three-hour festival running from 1 - 4 p.m.

The event is free and will feature an array of performances, including a dragon dance by Chinese Village Club. The museum will also set up numerous interactive areas that will include things like calligraphy, martial art demonstrations, face painting, storytelling, and lantern making.

“The community is our cozy home, and festivals are the sunshine within it,” Ying Liu, a member of the Chinese Village Club, said in a press release.

The club is a not-for-profit group whose mission is to “connect and work together with people from different cultural backgrounds to actively build bridges for community development.”

The Chinese Village Club will host the event and will showcase a number of different dance performances including: children’s dance performances by Newbridge Academy, Tibetan dance, and adult modern dance.

“Neighbours, like family, celebrate together, strengthening bonds and adding vibrancy to our shared space,” Liu added. “The community is a warm extended family.”

The museum is inviting all Surrey and area residents to come out to the museum Feb. 24 to “be part of this cultural celebration and tradition.”

The Museum of Surrey is located at 17710 56A Avenue. Entrance to the event is free.
