The City of Delta provides free Wi-Fi at more than a dozen locations, and a new map shows residents exactly where.
Delta’s Information Services division has introduced a “Delta Public Wi-Fi” layer to DeltaMap, the city’s online mapping system where residents can look up everything from zoning, utilities and rights of way, to park amenities, school catchments areas and licensed child-care facilities.
The move is part of the city’s commitment to fostering a digitally-inclusive environment, according to a press release.
“This layer will show everywhere the City of Delta offers public Wi-Fi, an important step in the ongoing initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and accessibility throughout the community,” the release states.
“Access to the internet is often vital for work, education, communication and leisure activities, and the City of Delta is proud to offer public Wi-Fi at so many of our community spaces. The new map layer will help to ensure that whether someone is visiting one of our civic centres or enjoying the amenities at one of our community centres, they can stay connected with ease.”
The map shows free, publicly-accessible Wi-Fi hotspots at 19 locations across the city, including five in North Delta: Sungod Recreation Centre, North Delta Recreation Centre, North Delta Centre of the Arts, Kennedy Seniors’ Recreation Centre and the North Delta Works Yard.
The public can access and explore the new map by heading to maps.delta.ca and selecting the “Delta Public Wi-Fi” layer in the “Community Services” tab.
