A special art sale at a Surrey school this weekend (May 10-11) will raise money to help feed hungry students.
Johnston Heights Secondary’s art fair is hosted by David McCann, an art collector and philanthropist known for hosting similar fundraisers in Vancouver.
Proceeds from this weekend’s event will be split between Adopt-A-School and the Johnston Heights food program.
The variety of prints — nature scenes, abstract pieces and more — will be sold from $5 up to $20 on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 15350 99 Ave., Surrey.
The food program at Johnston Heights provides meals not only during school hours but also over weekends and school breaks.
McCann wanted to bring the art sale to Surrey, according to Vanessa Seco, Surrey Schools’ manager of Major Gifts and Endowments with the Office of Advancement.
“David has hosted several events featuring this art and remains steadfast in his support of addressing food insecurity in the community,” Seco said in a news release. “He is on a mission to raise a million dollars towards this cause.”
McCann has a sizeable art collection that he’s gathered over the years, Seco noted, and sells many affordable pieces at art fairs to support his personal goal of eradicating food insecurity for students and children.
“We recognize there’s food insecurity within our school communities,” Seco added, “and our ability to address this challenge is made possible through the unwavering support of our incredible donors. An event like this is super exciting for the school community and we invite everyone to attend.”
